About us
Riaan Herbst is your outfitter and professional hunter, with a lifelong passion for the African bush, having hunted since he was a young boy. He is joined by our son, Heinrich, who is also a professional hunter. Having started hunting at the age of six and accompanying Riaan on hunts from a young age, Heinrich brings valuable experience and a deep understanding of the bush.
Together, they form a father-and-son team who are easy-going, professional, and dedicated to giving you the best possible hunting experience.
Our younger son, Fritz, works behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly—from preparing and maintaining vehicles to keeping coolers stocked with refreshments, ensuring your comfort in the field.
Karin is the heart of the lodge, welcoming guests with warm hospitality and delicious, home-cooked South African meals. During your stay, you’ll also enjoy meat from your own hunt, prepared at camp, creating a truly authentic field-to-table experience.
What We Offer
Accommodation
Comfortable, air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathrooms offer the perfect place to relax after a day in the bush. With only one booking at a time, the lodge is entirely yours to enjoy.
The Lodge Experience
Relax in a family-style lodge setting with a swimming pool, outdoor bar area, and peaceful bush surroundings. In the evenings, gather around the fire for a traditional South African braai, sharing good conversation under the African sky.
Hunting Safaris
Experience professionally guided hunting on well-managed concessions of over 20,000 acres, with rifle and bow hunting tailored to your preference and ability.
Non-Hunting Activities

Hunt for Heroes
At Herbst Safaris, we believe in giving back to those who have sacrificed so much.
Each year, we proudly donate a safari to support Hunt for Heroes, an organization dedicated to providing healing outdoor experiences for military veterans.
We have had the privilege of hosting two American war heroes at our camp, an experience that has been deeply meaningful for our family. Sharing time in the African bush, around the fire, and in the field is something we truly value, and we are honored to play a small part in giving back.
This initiative is close to our hearts and forms an important part of who we are at Herbst Safaris.
I highly recommend a hunting trip with Herbst Safaris. I was excited with the trip of a lifetime but terrified of traveling around the world alone. The last time I left the country was to fight a war and I was injured in the process. They were aware of my fears and assured me that they would take care of everything. My fears immediately went away upon meeting the Herbst family. They made me feel so welcome and handled things even when my flight was diverted and arrival was delayed. I felt safe and completely at home during my stay. Accommodations were very nice and comfortable. All the meals were delicious and I loved eating with the Herbst family. Whether it was the family meal time or relaxing around the fire with the Herbst family, I truly felt at home. They are extremely knowledgeable and excellent hunters. I had the time of my life on those hunts, seeing all the different animals on the safari style rides around the property and just being around the Herbst family. It was truly a trip of a lifetime. The best trip I’ve ever taken. Not only was it the best hunting experience of my life, I also gained a new family. They truly are my South African family and I can’t wait to see yall again, either back here in the US or back in South Africa!!
